How to design a food label

General labelling requirements of food products as per Food Safety Standard Regulation, Legal Metrology Act and Central Pollution Control Board in India:

  1. Generic Name of Product
  2. Net Quantity
  3. Mfd./Pkd. Date
  4. MRP. (Rs. or Rupees symbol – inclusive of all taxes)
  5. USP Rs. per g
  6. Manufacturer’s/Packer’s Name & Address
  7. Packer’s Address in addition to Manufacturer’s address, if both are different
  8. Brand owner or Marketer’s address in addition to Manufacturer’s or Packer’s address, if both are different
  9. Importer’s Address (Imported products only)
  10. Country of origin (Imported products only)
  11. Use By / Expiry date
  12. Batch No.
  13. Customer care (contact person, mail id, contact no. & address)
  14. Ingredients
  15. Nutritional information
  16. Storage condition
  17. FSSAI logo & License no. (Manufacturer/Importer & Marketer/Brand owner)
  18. Veg /Non veg logo on front & back panel

19. Product name and Category (category required in case of proprietary food only)

20. Health Claim

21. Allergen Warning

22. Disclaimer for pictures not in the ingredients list

23. Packaging material buy back declaration & Packaging Material manufacturer detail with license no. & type of plastic in triangle, clean logo
